# Join a CS2 community server

There are three ways onto a CS2 community server: the server browser, the console with connect, or a link. If a friend is already playing, you join from the friends list.

## Community server browser

Open **Play** and the **Community Server Browser**. You can search for the server name, and the tags of a server show up in the filters. Click the star to add a server to your favorites, then you find it again under **Favorites**.

In fullscreen exclusive mode the browser opens in the Steam overlay.

## Connect with IP in the console

- Turn on the developer console: **Settings**, **Game**, **Enable Developer Console (~)**.
- Press **~** (the key left of 1) to open the console.
- Type `connect`, the address and the port, and press Enter.

`connect play.hummeljail.de:27015`

- **IP or name:** both work, for example `connect 192.0.2.10:27015` or a domain name like above.
- **Always add the port:** without a port CS2 connects to 27015. A server on port 27016 is then a different server or none at all.

## Join a CS2 server with a password

Set the password first, then connect:

`password yourpassword`

`connect 192.0.2.10:27015`

A link can carry the password too: `steam://connect/192.0.2.10:27015/yourpassword`

## Join with a steam://connect link

A link in the form `steam://connect/IP:port` starts CS2 and connects you. Domain names don't work in this link, only IP addresses. For a domain name use this form instead:

`steam://run/730//+connect%20play.hummeljail.de:27015`

## Join friends on a community server

If a friend plays on a community server, open the friends list in CS2 and join them. That works as long as the server allows it.

## Can't connect to a CS2 community server

- **Fatal error when connecting:** the server runs a different CS2 build than you. Restart Steam to get the latest update.
- **Server not in the browser:** connect with IP and port in the console.
- **Wrong server after connect:** the port is missing. Add it after a colon.

## Questions about joining CS2 servers

### How do I connect to a CS2 server with an IP?

Turn on the developer console in the game settings, open it with ~ and type connect followed by the IP and the port, for example connect 192.0.2.10:27015.

### How do I join a CS2 server with a password?

Type password followed by the password in the console, then connect followed by the IP and port. A steam://connect link can carry the password after the port: steam://connect/IP:port/password.

### Why does connect take me to the wrong server?

Without a port, CS2 connects to port 27015. If the server runs on another port, add it after a colon.

### Where is the community server browser in CS2?

In the Play menu under Community Server Browser. In fullscreen exclusive mode it opens in the Steam overlay.
