CS2 Jailbreak Maps
CS2 jailbreak maps are community maps carrying the jb_ prefix, and they are built completely differently from normal Counter-Strike maps: asymmetric, with no bombsites and no hostages, but with a full prison of cells, guard vantage points and minigame areas. This guide explains how a jb_ map is laid out and which classics shaped the mode. New to jailbreak? What is jailbreak in CS2? covers the basics.
The typical layout of a jb_ map
Almost every jailbreak map is built from the same core areas. Knowing them means understanding every warden order instantly:
- Cell block (cells) - Where the prisoners start every round. The warden opens the cells with a button and gives the first order.
- Yard - The big open area of the jail. Gathering point for the group and the venue for races and many warden games.
- Armory - The CT weapon store. Off limits for prisoners, and for exactly that reason the favourite target of every rebellion.
- Medic - The medical area where players can heal. The warden decides who may go there and when.
- Isolation (solitary) - Single cells for prisoners who have earned special treatment.
- Vents and secrets - Hidden routes and weapon stashes. They let prisoners reach weapons unnoticed, which is the fuel of every rebellion.
Minigame areas: from the soccer pitch to the disco
The heart of every good jb_ map is its minigame areas. The warden sends the prisoners there, and often the game decides directly between life and death:
- Soccer - The prison football pitch. A classic for team duels between prisoners.
- Pool - A swimming pool for races and water-based games.
- Climb / parkour - Jumping sections where movement counts. Falling costs time or your life.
- Deathrun - A trap course: the prisoners run, the traps trigger, only the fastest get through.
- Disco / colors - Reaction games with colours and tiles: standing on the wrong surface means elimination.
- Shooting range / arena - Separated duel areas, often also the stage for the last request.
Well-known jailbreak classics
The jailbreak mode has lived off its community maps for over a decade. These names shaped the mode in CS:S and CS:GO and are still familiar to many players today - a good number of them live on as CS2 ports and remakes:
- jb_peanut - The compact evergreen: short distances, fast rounds, perfect for full servers.
- jb_summer - A summer setting with a huge selection of minigames, and on many servers the single most popular map.
- jb_clouds - The jail above the clouds, known for its open layout.
- jb_arcade - Goes all in on minigames and playful areas.
- jb_spy_vs_spy - Comic styling and winding routes with plenty of secrets.
- jb_dystopia - The futuristic counterpart: a high-tech jail with a dark atmosphere.
Map names change occasionally with ports and remakes, picking up suffixes like _v2, _final or _cs2. The concepts and areas stay the same everywhere, so knowing one version means finding your way around all of them.
Why map knowledge makes you better
- As a prisoner - Knowing secrets, vents and shortcuts means rebelling more successfully and winning races in the last request.
- As a warden - Clear orders need clear place names: "everyone to soccer" only works if you know where soccer is. More on that in the warden guide.
- As a CT - Knowing the weapon stashes of a map means seeing rebellions coming before they start.

// FAQ
Frequently asked questions about jailbreak maps
Why do jailbreak maps start with jb_?
The jb_ prefix is the naming convention for jailbreak maps in Counter-Strike, just as de_ marks defuse maps and surf_ marks surf maps. The prefix tells you immediately which game mode a community map was built for.
What belongs on every jailbreak map?
The core of every jb_ map is a cell block, a yard, an armory for the CTs and several minigame areas such as soccer, pool, climb or deathrun. On top of that come secrets and vents that let prisoners reach weapons and rebel.
Which map is currently running on Hummeljail?
You can see the current map in the CS2 community server browser or directly when connecting with connect play.hummeljail.de:27015 in the console. The rotation changes regularly.
Can I request a jailbreak map?
Yes. The Hummeljail team takes map requests and feedback about the rotation on our Discord.
